Perioperative outcomes of frenectomy using laser<i>versus</i>conventional surgery: a systematic review

Introduction: Frenectomy is an oral surgical procedure usually performed with a scalpel. Several authors recently reported the interest of laser, as minimally invasive and efficient alternative tool to perform frenectomy. This study aimed compare perioperative management patients requiring frenectomy using scalpel versus laser. Materials methods: A systematic review literature has been carried out from Pubmed Scopus databases following PRISMA guidelines. PICO method was used select relevant articles. Clinical studies comparing outcomes frenectomies laser were included. Results: Ten articles involving 375 Pre-operative parameter (anxiety before surgery) per-operative data such anesthesia, surgery duration, bleeding, suture difficulty assessed. The post-operative investigated pain, analgesics use, functional discomfort, edema, healing satisfaction patients. Laser achieved satisfactory peri-operative shorter operative time, without suturing requirement, well less pain discomfort. Discussion: low number eligible studies, different type lasers heterogeneity across methodology selected limits study. Conclusion: Laser-assisted became attractive soft tissue surgery.
